Live at Newport
Uff!!
Mucho tiempo sin actualizar entradas en el blog, pero ahora vengo con un par de discos de la Meca del Jazz en vivo, el festival de Newtport en Rhode Island, Estados Unidos.
Este festival comenzo en 1954 y conto a lo largo de su historia con presentaciones de los mejores exponentes de la musica negra de la epoca. Entre estos cuentan Muddy Waters, Donald Byrd, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, entre muchos otros.
Me gustaria compartir con Uds. dos tremendos discos editados de estas presentaciones, el primero titulado "Ella Fitzgerald & Billie Holiday at Newport" que cuenta ademas con la participacion de Carmen McRae.
Este disco para mi es el mejor de las presentaciones emanadas de este festival en Jazz Vocal, porque mezcla 3 artistas evidentemente destacables en sus estilos, por un lado tenemos a Fitzgerald con la melodia, la alegria y la energia que transmite su voz que al escucharla es imposible no imaginarsela sonriendo al momento de cantar; Holiday que nos transmite un Jazz mas emotivo, con una voz mas melancolica, cariñosa e incluso triste pero con una capacidad interpretativa tremenda; finalmente McRae es la fuerza, la potencia que se ve reflejada en mi tema favorito del disco "Skyliner"

Otro disco que me gustaria compartir es el de Muddy Waters at Newport, el campeon del Blues, el "Chicago's Boss" como era conocido en sus mejores años, artista que se paseaba por todos los estilos de musica negra, blues, jazz, r&b e incluso el hardrock y el folk. Este album fue grabado en 1960, pero en el año 2001 fue remasterizado y relanzando por MCA con una excelente calidad de sonido.
Como dato simpatico, Muddy Waters aparecio en un capitulo de la serie Family Guy
